I've seen Tarpley playing in Greece for Aris and Olympiakos. Very strong and quick for his size. He could dribble and run the floor like a guard. Also shot quite well from the Euro-3pt arc if needed. In Greece he is considered as one of the best Americans played here along with Walter Berry. About Roy it is said that he had an irresistable love for beers.

Watch this entire video clip, concerning Richard Dumas ... then read his all too brief wikipedia bio and you'll soon realize some of the talent that goes to waste when a young man in the NBA has a drug dependent illness.

While I never really had a chance to see Tarpley play, his stats certainly speak volumes.

The Suns had a similar player around the same time named Richard Dumas. His career, which also appeared to be on the rise, was derailed by substance abuse as well. I did get to watch Dumas play, and he was an extraordinary talent around the basket.

Does anyone know whatever became of him? I thought for sure he was a future all-star after his breakout 1992-93 season.

Roy Tarpley's story needs to be mandatory reading for all new players in the NBA. He was a tremendous player in his heyday and, IMO, much better than his simple stats indicate.
