Best Team In Franchise History: Southeast Division

September 5, 2008 by Harlan Schreiber Leave a Comment

We now turn to one of the "new fangled" divisions, the Southeast, which was created to accommodate the expansion Charlotte Bobcats and even out the divisions (in case you missed it, an explanation of our "best" inquiry can be found here).  Aside from Charlotte, the division contains two old franchises (Atlanta and Washington) and two newer guys (Miami and Orlando).  The division lacks the obvious compelling best in franchise debates that we see in many of the other divisions but there may be … [Read more...] about Best Team In Franchise History: Southeast Division

Best Team In Franchise History: Central Division

August 17, 2008 by Harlan Schreiber Leave a Comment

Continuing with our divisional tour of best teams by franchise, we come to the Central Division, where we have some tough choices to consider.  If you're interested in the parameters of our discussion and our standard of review, you can check out the intro here.  But going forward, we get to look a pretty fun bunch of franchises, all of whom had several different years of success to measure against each other... … [Read more...] about Best Team In Franchise History: Central Division

Best Team In Franchise History: Atlantic Division

August 10, 2008 by Harlan Schreiber Leave a Comment

Sure, we have the Olympics to keep us quasi-interested in basketball this summer but usually we like to get a bit historical in the summers.  In particular, we like to play with the usual unanswerable (and sometimes irrelevant) questions that we all think about.  This summer we'll tackle the question of which team is the best in each franchise's history.  This question is complicated on several levels.  First, you have to define "best."  Obviously, winning a title may seem like a pre-requisite … [Read more...] about Best Team In Franchise History: Atlantic Division

December 26, 2007 by Harlan Schreiber Leave a Comment

After some delay, we finally reach the conclusion of our six-part series on All-Time All-Rookie tours by division.  The final installment takes to out to the Pacific Division, where three of the five teams are original pre-shot clock NBA teams all of whom fled the Northeast to try their hand out west.  Do the ages of these franchises yield more quality rookies to choose from?  Let's take a look.... -Golden State Warriors:  In the case of the Philadelphia Warriors (now Golden State Warriors) … [Read more...] about All-Time All-Rookie Teams: Pacific Division

All-Time All-Rookie Teams: Northwest Division

October 5, 2007 by Harlan Schreiber Leave a Comment

This is your basic middle-aged division.  No really new franchises (Minnesota is the most recently created squad) but most came into the NBA in the mid-1970s.  So, you wouldn't expect too many deep All-Rookie rosters.  Let's take a look and see... -Denver Nuggets: Denver is one of the few franchises without actually having a Rookie of the Year winner.  Many of the franchises great players were actually rookies elsewhere.  Alex English came up with the Bucks.  Calvin Natt and Fat … [Read more...] about All-Time All-Rookie Teams: Northwest Division

All-Time All-Rookie Teams: Southwest Division

September 14, 2007 by Harlan Schreiber Leave a Comment

The Southwest is one of the newer divisions but it's comprised of some interesting teams, a couple of which have quite a few big time rooks.... -Dallas Mavericks: The history of the Dallas franchise has very little middle ground.  The Mavs came into existence in 1980 and almost immediately accrued tons of good young players until the late 1980s when the Mavs proceeded to be the worst franchise in the NBA for most of the 1990s.  Things have turned again recently and Dallas has been … [Read more...] about All-Time All-Rookie Teams: Southwest Division
