NBA Draft 2010: Post-Tournament Update

April 11, 2010 by Ed Weiland 12 Comments

This will be the last update until I do the draft previews. I doubt things will change much, but I’ll go much deeper with the analysis in those. Right now I’m just skimming the stats. Not a whole lot has changed in the past month. There are still 4 players who stand above the crowd. After that there are about 6 players who look like they’ll be decent rotation players. Finally there are about 15-20 who offer enough intrigue and potential that they’d be a worthwhile pick after about #20. That says … [Read more...] about NBA Draft 2010: Post-Tournament Update

NCAA Tournament Preview

March 18, 2010 by Ed Weiland Leave a Comment

I’ve been trying to get a handle on what wins the NCAA tournament and there seem to be 3 things that in recent years have been huge. The first is the team has to be one of the top teams in the country. Seriously. The 2nd factor is the team needs to have some quality big men. They don’t have to be great, but they should at the very least be good. At least one of the big men and preferably more, should be players that will be drafted. The higher they will be drafted, the better. The third factor … [Read more...] about NCAA Tournament Preview

NBA Draft 2010: Prospect Update

March 7, 2010 by Ed Weiland 15 Comments

Something I’ve been wondering about with the 2010 draft is what affect the potential lockout and new CBA will have on the early entrants. If we go by the theory that players will enter the draft when it is to their financial benefit to do so, we could see quite a few early entrants in 2010. The reason is this is the final season that rookies will get contracts based on the current CBA. The group drafted in 2011 and beyond will likely be looking at less lucrative contracts than previous rookie … [Read more...] about NBA Draft 2010: Prospect Update

Ty Thomas and LaMarcus Aldridge Revisited

February 14, 2010 by Ed Weiland 8 Comments

These two players will always be linked and compared. They play the same position, came into the league through the same draft and were dealt for each other the night of that draft. While Aldridge was chosen before Thomas, most stat guys like me felt Thomas had the much better future at the time. This was my bottom line opinions of the two players going into the draft:  Thomas: The draft is weak, but I believe Tyrus Thomas is the best player available and the one player who has the best … [Read more...] about Ty Thomas and LaMarcus Aldridge Revisited

NBA Draft 2010: Prospect Update

February 6, 2010 by Ed Weiland 11 Comments

Right now I would rank the 2010 class as below-average. The potential at this point would rank somewhere between weak and slightly above-average at this point. I could see as many as 9 impact players in this group. But none is a sure thing and if they all come up short, as is the case more often than not, it will be a very weak draft. The strength of this draft will be the forwards, be they power, combo or small. They’re a strong group that could get stronger if some emerging players keep their … [Read more...] about NBA Draft 2010: Prospect Update

NBA Draft Update

January 9, 2010 by Ed Weiland 6 Comments

Right now the 2010 draft class is a little tough to gauge. As with recent drafts the strength will be in the freshman class. My feeling is that this class is somewhat below-average. Other than Wall and Henry the guards are a very weak group. The big guys look OK now, but the conference games are starting and that always thins their ranks out. This list is a little scattershot and not exactly a top 60 that’s in a strict order of the ability and future of the players. After the first 15 or so I … [Read more...] about NBA Draft Update
