First Round Fallout Western Conference Edition

April 30, 2019 by Harlan Schreiber Leave a Comment

We continue with part two of our fall out column…. -Utah Jazz:  The spanking by the Rockets obscured a pretty good season.  The Jazz were arguably the third or fourth best team in the West but had the bad luck of drawing Houston earlier than expected due to Houston’s early slump.  So, the Utah season ended with a 4-1 Rockets win, just like last season, albeit one round earlier.  In all, the Jazz have basically been the same team the last three seasons: great on defense and mediocre on … [Read more...] about First Round Fallout Western Conference Edition

First Round Fallout Eastern Conference Edition

April 25, 2019 by Harlan Schreiber Leave a Comment

As the first round of the playoffs winds down, we turn to our annual fall out report for the losers.  Since half of the West is still playing, today, we’ll start with the East: -Indiana Pacers:  Before the Victor Oladipo injury, the Pacers were a legit threat to the top teams in the East.  Certainly not a great team but Indiana was good enough to possibly beat Boston or Philly.  Without Oladipo, they were just a .500ish team built around a few decent players.  On the plus side, the Pacers … [Read more...] about First Round Fallout Eastern Conference Edition

March 27, 2019 by Harlan Schreiber Leave a Comment

Recently, Tim Hardaway gave an interview to HoopsHype where he asserted that he hasn’t been voted into the Hall of Fame for non-basketball reasons: “the reason I'm not in is because of what I said in 2007 about gay people. That's why I'm not in right now, and I understand it. I hurt a lot of people's feelings and it came off the wrong way and it was really bad of me to say that.”  Hardaway was appropriately conciliatory about his past comments and seems to accept that basis for not getting into … [Read more...] about Why Isn’t T-Hard In The Hall?

NCAA Tourney NBA Style

March 24, 2019 by Harlan Schreiber Leave a Comment

In the honor of the start of the NCAA tourney, we thought we could take a brief look at the All-Time starting five for each of the 68 tourney teams, ranked by their NBA career accomplishments.  A few prleims: -We know it is sort of antithetical to rank by NBA career when college accomplishment can be very different than NBA accomplishment (see, for example, Christian Laettner versus Kyrie Irving at and after Duke). -In putting together a team, if two players are close, college … [Read more...] about NCAA Tourney NBA Style
