NBA Draft 2013: Power Forwards

June 25, 2013 by Ed Weiland Leave a Comment

This is a very weak group of PFs this year. Probably the only group that lives down to the ridiculous “worst draft ever” assessments we’re hearing about 2013. I did write ups on the two best prospects, Cody Zeller and Tony Mitchell. The rest I put in groups without much comment, because there isn’t much to add other than all are marginal prospects who are worth a look, but probably not a draft pick. There were no foreign PFs who looked worthy of a mention. The PF benchmarks I look for are 2PP … [Read more...] about NBA Draft 2013: Power Forwards

NBA Draft 2013: Top 60 or so Prospects as of 12/31

January 5, 2013 by Ed Weiland Leave a Comment

At this point I like the 2013 draft. There are a lot of promising players, which is a welcome development following two very dry drafts. That makes this year much more fun for us draft geeks. The problem is there isn’t any one player who looks like a sure fire star. While the drafts of 2011 and 2012 were historically weak, at least there was Kyrie Irving and Anthony Davis. No such star has emerged as the class of the 2013 crop. There are enough good prospects out there, that I suspect a few will … [Read more...] about NBA Draft 2013: Top 60 or so Prospects as of 12/31

NBA Draft: Is Cody Zeller Worth the Hype?

November 12, 2012 by Ed Weiland Leave a Comment

There’s a lot of hype surrounding Cody Zeller. He’s the college hoops pre-season cover boy for Sports Illustrated and ESPN the Mag. A look at the mocks suggests he’s considered one of the top prospects in the nation. Zeller is pretty much a fixture in the top 5, along with Noel, Muhammad and McAdoo. The mocks will change as the season progresses. Some players will fade and others will emerge. This happens every year and 2013 seems set for more fluidity than usual, due to the abnormally large … [Read more...] about NBA Draft: Is Cody Zeller Worth the Hype?

NBA Draft 2013: Early look at the Power Forwards

August 23, 2012 by Ed Weiland Leave a Comment

This is a pretty good group... potentially of course. Like the SFs there’s a lot of depth here. It’s a good mix of promising sophs and college veterans with one last chance to sparkle. With the incoming freshman class also being deep in big men, 2013 should be a good year for the bigs, which means a strong year for college basketball and a deep 2013 draft. I’m going to adopt the term “stretch 4” to replace combo forward. Combo suggests they play both SF and PF. In reality such players are … [Read more...] about NBA Draft 2013: Early look at the Power Forwards
