NBA Draft 2014: Ranking the SFs

June 25, 2014 by Ed Weiland Leave a Comment

There have been a lot of good SFs come into the league since LeBron and Carmelo headed the 2003 draft class. This group has a chance to be as good as any SF class ever. It is a deep, diverse group that features a lot of potential stars. The SFs are what makes the 2014 draft so deep and potentially a historically good one. In addition to the depth of this group, what should make them a fun group to watch develop is there is no clear cut best prospect in the group. There is no LeBron James or … [Read more...] about NBA Draft 2014: Ranking the SFs

NBA Draft: Top 60 Post Tournament

April 15, 2014 by Ed Weiland Leave a Comment

This final top 60 includes only seniors and underclassmen listed as at least 50-50 to declare on Chad Ford’s list. So until next year I bid adieu to Denzel Livingston and Delon Wright. I look forward to seeing you both drafted in the 2015 lottery. The 2014 draft is shaping up as a perimeter heavy draft. After Embiid and possibly Clint Capela, there are no real good prospects at the 4 or 5. This could become one of the great drafts ever for small forwards though. It is a very deep draft at the … [Read more...] about NBA Draft: Top 60 Post Tournament

NBA Draft 2014: Top 60

February 6, 2014 by Ed Weiland Leave a Comment

The 2014 draft is starting to come into focus. Two things I can say for certain is that Joel Embiid has established himself as the best prospect out there and the draft will be dominated by perimeter players after he’s taken #1. After Embiid the big guys are an uninspiring bunch. I do think the 2014 draft has a chance to live up to its preseason billing of legendary. Embiid and Parker both look like they have the goods to become perennial all-stars. Behind them are as many as 10 players good … [Read more...] about NBA Draft 2014: Top 60

NBA Draft 2013: Top 60 or so Prospects as of 12/31

January 5, 2013 by Ed Weiland Leave a Comment

At this point I like the 2013 draft. There are a lot of promising players, which is a welcome development following two very dry drafts. That makes this year much more fun for us draft geeks. The problem is there isn’t any one player who looks like a sure fire star. While the drafts of 2011 and 2012 were historically weak, at least there was Kyrie Irving and Anthony Davis. No such star has emerged as the class of the 2013 crop. There are enough good prospects out there, that I suspect a few will … [Read more...] about NBA Draft 2013: Top 60 or so Prospects as of 12/31

NBA Draft 2013: Well Rounded SFs

December 14, 2012 by Ed Weiland Leave a Comment

The emergence of Chandler Parsons as a solid, multi-skilled NBA SF and a Most Improved Player candidate for 2013 is something of an anomaly. Parsons, in only his 2nd NBA season, is currently a top 3 player on a decent Rockets team. He’s among the team leaders in minutes, points, rebounds and assists. The reason his success is something of a surprise is Parsons was a role player in college, never finishing as higher than the 3rd leading scorer during 4 seasons on what was always a pretty ordinary … [Read more...] about NBA Draft 2013: Well Rounded SFs

NBA Draft 2013: Early Look at the Incoming Freshmen

November 3, 2012 by Ed Weiland Leave a Comment

This could be an exercise in futility here, but I’m going to attempt to analyze the 2013 incoming freshmen based on stats compiled in the all-star games. This process will probably play out somewhat like trying to predict the rookie of the year from summer league play. That’s always been kind of a joke. The reason is the games played in the summer league are played for a different reason than the games played for real. The same is true with the high school all-star games. They’re a talent … [Read more...] about NBA Draft 2013: Early Look at the Incoming Freshmen
