MVP Voting and the 65-Game Rule Examined

April 6, 2024 by Harlan Schreiber

The NBA’s new 65-game minimum to be eligible for awards has met mixed reviews.  Adam Silver passed the rule to try to encourage meaningful participation in the regular season.  During the All-Star break, Silver posited that the rule had been a success: “I can tell you that the number of games that players have participated in is up this season, and interestingly enough, injuries are actually down.”  I’m not sure what data Silver is specifically relying on, but it does seem that … [Read more...] about MVP Voting and the 65-Game Rule Examined

Quick Thoughts

February 13, 2021 by Harlan Schreiber

The other book is “Living Liberia: Laughter, Love and Folly,” a memoir/travel book of his life as a Peace Corps volunteer in a West African village. He was also asked in 2019 by the Library of Congress … [Read more...] about Q&A with Wilt Author Robert Cherry

April 20, 2020 by Harlan Schreiber

In order to make the best of life without NBA games, NBA TV and other networks have been showing a ton of older games.  Most of them are well-remembered (i.e., Isiah Thomas’ scoring rampage on a sprained ankle in 1988, a bunch of Laker-Celtics Finals games from the 1980s, or Michael Jordan games).  Those games are great and significant but I actually saw most of those games live and find them less interesting than stuff I’ve never really seen.  One game that caught my eye in the reruns was Magic … [Read more...] about Magic’s First Game: A Snap Shot of the NBA Circa 1979
