I’m going to look at Anthony Davis with the idea that he’s going to play more center than PF, even though he’s listed as a PF. He’s over 6’10” in shoes and has a 7’5” wingspan. He has little in the way of a perimeter game and his main skill is blocking shots. All those things add up to Anthony Davis playing more center than PF. The only issue would be his slight frame. NBA Draft 2012: Power Forwards

I like analyzing power forwards. In general they’re an easy, low maintenance bunch. Unlike the small forwards, there isn’t a lot of nuance. It’s fairly simple. If a player can score efficiently, rebound and defend at the college level, he’s a good prospect. If he can’t, he isn’t. The benchmarks are fairly simple for PFs. If a player posts a 2PP of .580, a P40 of 18.0, a R40 of 10.0 and a SB40 of 3.5, he’s a solid prospect. They’re not quite a power or a small forward, but something in between. Their value lies in either the ability to play both forward positions or to bring a different dimension, usually 3-point shooting, to the PF position. It’s best that they score both often and efficiently and possess as many other skills as possible, be it passing, rebounding or defense. I thought I’d start the SF analyses by looking at a couple of players I feel are being undervalued by the experts. These are a couple of small forwards who stand out statistically in what is really a pretty deep group. Neither has gotten much in the way of attention. The feeling out there about Harrison Barnes seems to be that while he’s definitely overhyped, at least he’ll become a player in the mold of a Rudy Gay or Luol Deng and that’s not a bad catch in the 5-10 range of the draft.
