The Luka-AD Trade FAQ

February 2, 2025 by Harlan Schreiber

Needless to say, the shocking trade of Luka Doncic for Anthony Davis needs some examination.  Here’s a quick review: Who won the trade? Well, my gut reaction is that the Lakers feel like decisive winners.  AD Is a great player but he is six years older than Luka and Doncic’s shot creation skills are elite and not readily available on the open market.  For reference, here is the stat lines for AD and Doncic for this year: Davis: 34.3 mpg, 25.7 ppg, .528 FG%, .298 3FG%, … [Read more...] about The Luka-AD Trade FAQ

2021-22 NBA Preview: Reviewing the Title Contenders

October 11, 2021 by Harlan Schreiber

Well, that was a quick off-season.  With so much going on, it feels like we didn’t have to miss the NBA for very long.  The season officially starts on October 18 and it feels like early 2020-21 again.  The Nets and Lakers are the early bettor favorites, with Sportsbettingdime.com, giving Brooklyn the edge at +200 followed by the Lakers (+400) and the Bucks (+900).  But do these odds accurately reflect the current statuses of the potential contenders?  I’m skeptical of … [Read more...] about 2021-22 NBA Preview: Reviewing the Title Contenders

NBA Finals 2019-2020 Preview

September 30, 2020 by Harlan Schreiber

Bubble Ball really is different.  The Miami Heat, a pretty solid team, has thoroughly dispatched two teams, who seemed much better on paper.  Can they do it again?  The honest answer is I don’t see it but I didn’t see them smacking around the Bucks, so what do I know?  Generally, Vegas agrees with this take.  Odds makers already have the Lakers as five-point favorites in Game 1 and the general bend seems to be in favor of LeBron James and Los Angeles.  Putting all … [Read more...] about NBA Finals 2019-2020 Preview

Playoff Quick Thoughts

August 29, 2020 by Harlan Schreiber

1.            The Boycott:  Before getting into the substance of the NBA playoffs so far, we would be remiss if we didn’t comment on the NBA players’ decision to sit out a few games in protest of the shooting of Jacob Blake.  It’s hard to really coherently write about this issue in brief but here are a few undercooked observations: -Protests are typically more symbolic than substantive but symbolic gestures do matter.  The … [Read more...] about Playoff Quick Thoughts
