2019-20 NBA Award Picks

April 7, 2020 by Harlan Schreiber

The wind of excitement for the 2019-20 season is clearly waning.   It’s fair to assume that the regular season is over and we are left to guess if there ever will be playoffs in some form.  Let’s take a pause now go over our award picks.  Without further ado, here we are: MVP:  This one is not particularly close.  James Harden, LeBron James, Anthony Davis, and Kawhi Leonard all have various arguments for second but Giannis Antetokounmpo has clear, if not totally dominant, lead over field.  … [Read more...] about 2019-20 NBA Award Picks

Curry or Harden: The 2015 MVP Debate

March 3, 2015 by Ed Weiland Leave a Comment

The 2015 MVP race is interesting in a lot of ways. Like the season in general the story has been about new faces dominating the picture. This has been a welcome and refreshing development. It also features a most productive player vs. best player on the best team debate. That would Stephen Curry of the Warriors and James Harden of the Rockets. This article breaks down the MVP chances for both players and adds some thoughts on 4 longshot candidates. Stephen Curry, Golden State: Curry is the … [Read more...] about Curry or Harden: The 2015 MVP Debate

ROTY Watch

November 17, 2012 by Ed Weiland Leave a Comment

This year I’m going to start an occasional look at the top candidates for Rookie-of-the-year. While it’s kind of silly to start projecting the outcome of such awards in November, it might help me with the draft previews to keep a closer look at the rookies. Also everyone else is doing such lists so Hoopsanalyst may as well join the fray. The 2013 class so far is playing out as expected, though some individuals have surprised me. Davis is showing great promise. Behind him there are a mix of … [Read more...] about ROTY Watch

NBA 2013 Preview: Who Will Win the ROY?

October 24, 2012 by Ed Weiland Leave a Comment

The 2013 rookie class looks weak to me. Anthony Davis is the only sure thing in the group and that makes him an easy top choice. I mention other players as rookies to watch. Some will probably go on to have solid careers, but Anthony Davis is the story of the 2012 draft and the rookie class of 2013. I doubt many other 2013 rookies will make much of a ripple in the league. Just because Davis is something close to a lock to win the ROY, doesn’t mean there aren’t several other intriguing rookies … [Read more...] about NBA 2013 Preview: Who Will Win the ROY?

NBA Draft 2012: Grades

June 29, 2012 by Ed Weiland Leave a Comment

This draft is Anthony Davis followed by a whole lot of meh. There’s a lot of journeyman depth. There are a lot of decent prospects, but few good ones. For that reason the 2012 draft is a tough one to evaluate and grade. There will be some players who develop into rotation regulars and even stars though and I’m going to try and sort that out right here. I grade on a curve. There will be 3 A’s, 6 B’s, 12 C’s, 6 D’s and 3 F’s. Grades are given based mainly on how much each team used their 2012 … [Read more...] about NBA Draft 2012: Grades

NBA Draft 2012: Top 60 (Not a mock draft)

June 27, 2012 by Ed Weiland Leave a Comment

This is not a mock draft. Mocks suggest some inside knowledge of how the draft will transpire. I have no such knowledge other than what I might read here and there. This is the order of how I would draft this group of players. This is an incredibly difficult bunch to rank after the top pick. After Davis every player has major concerns and isn’t a guy I’d want in the top 2-10 of most drafts. What this draft does have going for it is what I’ll call journeyman depth. There will be players … [Read more...] about NBA Draft 2012: Top 60 (Not a mock draft)
