Playoff Quick Thoughts

April 30, 2023 by Harlan Schreiber

So far, the playoffs have been as unpredictable as any, including the Bubble.  We had a sense that the regular season results would be less predictive than usual but seeing Milwaukee get surprisingly dispatched relatively easily by an eight seed Heat team was surprising to say the least.  Let’s run through some interesting questions from the playoffs so far FAQ-style. How bad was the Bucks’ loss? Any time a one seed loses to an eight seed, the one seed is not covered in … [Read more...] about Playoff Quick Thoughts

Game 7 Preview: Nets/Bucks

June 19, 2021 by Harlan Schreiber

Is it possible that the most anticipated game of this playoff season will be played in the Second Round?  It’s not a foregone conclusion but there is a good chance that tonight’s Bucks/Nets Game 7 will be the NBA champ.  This Game 7 will be, perhaps, the most consequential game of the playoffs.  At the moment, the Nets are pegged as very slight favorites by the odds makers.   Let’s run through this game FAQ style to see if we agree… Has this actually been a good … [Read more...] about Game 7 Preview: Nets/Bucks

2020-21 MVP Picks

May 10, 2021 by Harlan Schreiber

Who is the 2020-21 NBA MVP?  Usually, there is not much controversy and the best player seems apparent to most fans/voters.  Specifically, the MVP is usually the best player on the best team.  That’s the nice thing about the NBA, the best players historically are on the best teams.  There were times when strong narratives regarding nice stories (i.e. Allen Iverson 2000-01) or shear voter fatigue (see Jordan, Michael) changed the vote but, for the most part, it has held.  … [Read more...] about 2020-21 MVP Picks

NBA 2020-21 Awards So Far

February 22, 2021 by Harlan Schreiber

As we approach the halfway point of the season, I thought this would be good time to do awards picks for the season that has been so far.  Granted a lot could change but let’s jump in and take a look: MVP:  Before the season, LeBron James, Kawhi Leonard, and Giannis Antetokounmpo were the safe bets.  They were the best players for the three likely best teams.  They have all been very good so far but Nikola Jokic has been even better.  Jokic leads the NBA in most … [Read more...] about NBA 2020-21 Awards So Far

NBA Preview 2020-21: A Quick Review

December 22, 2020 by Harlan Schreiber

Well, that was fast!  Part of me is not ready for more basketball but, let’s be honest, having no break from watching NBA games is preferable to watching reruns and various other available entertainment fare.  The NBA looks mostly similar to the league we were left with a few months ago.  Since the new season is upon on so quickly, we are going to do some abbreviated previews/predictions.  Eastern Conference 1. Milwaukee Bucks 2. Miami Heat 3. Philadelphia … [Read more...] about NBA Preview 2020-21: A Quick Review

NBA 2019-20 Playoff Preview (For Real!)

July 27, 2020 by Harlan Schreiber

Well, the 2019-20 NBA playoffs are finally upon us!  Let’s run through a quick preview/FAQ of what’s going on…. How should we feel about this?  It’s hard to quantify exactly.  It feels….different.  How to explain?  The best analogy I could come up with relates to serialization in comic books.  I was never a huge comic book fan but, as a young kid, they were around and I dabbled in them like any good 10-year old would.  In reading them, I found one (of … [Read more...] about NBA 2019-20 Playoff Preview (For Real!)
