1. Greek Freak Projected: Amidst the waste land that is Milwaukee’s horrible season, there are few rays of hope. Somehow the Bucks have managed to pull off being horrible offensively (29th) and defensively (29th) and have done so at a slow boring pace (25th in the NBA). Aside from a pending high draft pick, the most valued asset on the roster is probably Giannis Antetokounmpo. As most know, Antetokounmpo is a lanky 19-year old, with a huge wing-span and great hops. The trade deadline has come and gone and, yet again, we are underwhelmed with the results. No big names were moved. Rather, most of the trades came down to the dregs of the Eastern Conference trying desperately to eke into the playoffs or, perhaps equally desperately, trying to get above the seven seed and inevitable first round annihilation at the hands of Indiana or Miami. 1. No Free Throw Pablo: While the early struggles of the Knicks have been thoroughly discussed, what caught my attention was the play of backup point guard Pablo Prigioni. Prigioni is a solid player (14.1 PER so far this year) and has actually significantly outplayed starter Raymond Felton (whose struggles are a big factor in the Knicks’ terrible start). 1. Can Miami Three-Peat? James’ quest for a three-peat is not remarkably rare. In fact, we’ve had three in the past 20 years or so. (Michael Jordan did it twice and Shaq/Kobe Lakers had one as well (1999-00 through 2001-02). The Heat, however, are attempting a rarer feat. The mere ability to get back to the NBA Finals in four straight years is remarkably rare. Chicago Bulls 7/10 Signed Mike Dunleavy and waived Richard Hamilton Signing Dunleavy is essentially a swap for Marco Belinelli. Dunleavy can shoot and fit in well to pretty much any offense. His downside is that he is already 33 and has had some injury issues (though none have been significant since 2010-11). Given Dunleavy’s cheap price (two year and $6 million) and his savvy play, the risk is minimal and he should be a solid cog off the bench and as a sport starter. Atlanta Hawks 7/10 Signed Paul Millsap 7/15 Signed Elton Brand 7/29 Signed Gustavo Ayon 8/3 Waived DeShawn Stevenson and DeMarre Carroll In all, the Hawks have stocked up quite well after losing Josh Smith. Millsap can’t do quite as much as Smith but at the price difference (2 years and $19 million for Millsap versus four years and $56 million for Smith) the choice makes sense.
