1. Kidd Stuff: What initially seemed like a very interesting deal between the Nets and Mavericks now appears close to dead. The deal as originally constituted looks like this: Nets Get: Devin Harris (heart of the deal. Harris is locked into a long-term extension and is only 25). One of the fun things about the NBA season is when something total anomalous and unexpected happens. Sometimes, the anomaly is so subtle that people miss it. To me, Anthony Carter's 2007-08 season falls in that subtle anomaly category. Carter is having a career year in terms of minutes and scoring, though for a career year it's not that far above his production in Miami in that late 1990s and early 2000s. Charlotte Bobcats 1/31 Sign Earl Boykins Tough summer for Boykins, who turned down a $3 million option with the Bucks in search of a better situation and a long term deal. It didn't quite work out that way, as Boykins had to sit out half the season and ends up with $1.1 million for high trouble. It wasn't a crazy decision for Boykins to opt out at age-31. 1. Big Win In SA: A few weeks ago, we examined the New Orleans Hornets' hot start to determine how real it is and how likely it is to continue. We concluded that the Hornets were pretty good but that staying on 55-60 win pace didn't seem realistic. Since that time, however, the Hornets have only stepped up their play, going 9-1. Yes, I detest the All-Star game and haven't watched it in years and I don't usually read the All-Star pick columns either. Still, I can't deny there is some appeal to chew the scenery on the process. Cleveland Cavaliers 1/14 Sign Mike Brown to a contract extension Despite the early rumors that he was in trouble, Brown got the extension he had been requesting. Brown's contract was set to expire after 2008-09 and it would have created quite a bit of controversy to let the coach that led them to the Cavs to their only Finals appearance to twist in the wind as a potential lame duck.
