November 28, 2021 by Harlan Schreiber

In 2013-14, the Warriors were a solid 12th in offense and 4th in defense.   Entering the 2014-15 season, the Warriors looked like a fun playoff team with second round upside behind developing youngsters Steph Curry and Klay Thompson.  The odds makers had them set for 52.5 wins in 2014-15 but did not consider them a real title contender.  They then exploded to a 67-15 record and a string of NBA Finals appearances.  They had the best defense in the NBA but the real … [Read more...] about Golden State’s Hot Start Examined

November 13, 2019 by Harlan Schreiber Leave a Comment

With most teams having not played more than nine or ten games played so far, it is way too early to make many meaningful conclusions away.  Having said that, premature judgments are what the internet exists for.  So, let’s knock around some snap judgments…. Best Surprise: Phoenix Suns The Suns are clearly the biggest positive surprise so far.  They looked like the worst team in the West on paper and that was before Deandre Ayton was suspended.  Somehow, they are 6-3 and have the second … [Read more...] about Quick Thoughts (So Far)

Quick Thoughts

December 28, 2018 by Harlan Schreiber Leave a Comment

1. GS Struggles: The Warriors are still the top seed in the West but, after several blowout losses at home and a relatively blah SRS (4.02 which is only third in the conference), there are signs of problems.   The Warriors are still the top offense in the NBA but the clearest team problem is defense.  The Warriors slipped from a top 5 defense to 11th last season.  This trend line has slipped even further this year (16th). Where does the slippage lie?  The frontcourt still has solid numbers … [Read more...] about Quick Thoughts
