2015 NBA Draft Top 60 Post Tournament

April 9, 2015 by Ed Weiland 1 Comment

The 2015 draft has the potential to be one of the best ever. The 2015 class features the most impressive group of bigs in a long time, possibly since Shaq and Alonzo in ’93. The PG and PF classes are also deep. I have omitted all players who have announced plans to return to school for the 2016 season. Players are listed in order of how I would draft them, all other things being equal. Karl Anthony Towns, C Kentucky: I like both top centers a lot, but Towns has the edge because he’s more … [Read more...] about 2015 NBA Draft Top 60 Post Tournament

2015 NCAA Tournament: Predictions and Commentary

March 18, 2015 by Ed Weiland Leave a Comment

There is nothing in the world as difficult as picking a perfect NCAA tournament bracket. Even all the brilliant analysis and inside information in the world won’t save a bracket if a few shots don’t bounce your way. The problem is the vast majority of games are played by teams that are very evenly matched and it is difficult to guess which players are going to show up ready to perform. I still love analyzing and the games and doing a bracket every year. When I have a good year, like last … [Read more...] about 2015 NCAA Tournament: Predictions and Commentary

NBA Draft 2013: Top 60

February 7, 2013 by Ed Weiland Leave a Comment

The 2013 draft is shaping up as a pretty good draft overall. The strength is centers, which is a great thing as the NBA is in a perpetual shortage of quality big men. It also means the draft is going to be top heavy in big men, because they’re more valuable players. The draft will be similar to 2012 in that there is one guy who stands out, followed by a muddled group starting at #2. Like last year the top guy is a freshman center playing for Kentucky. The important thing is that while Anthony … [Read more...] about NBA Draft 2013: Top 60

NBA Draft 2013: Early Look at the Incoming Freshmen

November 3, 2012 by Ed Weiland Leave a Comment

This could be an exercise in futility here, but I’m going to attempt to analyze the 2013 incoming freshmen based on stats compiled in the all-star games. This process will probably play out somewhat like trying to predict the rookie of the year from summer league play. That’s always been kind of a joke. The reason is the games played in the summer league are played for a different reason than the games played for real. The same is true with the high school all-star games. They’re a talent … [Read more...] about NBA Draft 2013: Early Look at the Incoming Freshmen

NBA Draft2012: Anthony Davis

June 25, 2012 by Ed Weiland Leave a Comment

I’m going to look at Anthony Davis with the idea that he’s going to play more center than PF, even though he’s listed as a PF. He’s over 6’10” in shoes and has a 7’5” wingspan. He has little in the way of a perimeter game and his main skill is blocking shots. All those things add up to Anthony Davis playing more center than PF. The only issue would be his slight frame. At 222 lb he’ll have to add some weight. Because he’s young and has already handled a legendary growth spurt with little, if … [Read more...] about NBA Draft2012: Anthony Davis
