Revisiting Shaq’s 1999-00 MVP Voting

September 24, 2019 by Harlan Schreiber Leave a Comment

Apparently, even uber-successful stars are just like the rest of us.  They are frustrated by the “what if” moments of life and focus on the regrets.  To that end, on Monday, Shaquille O’Neal told an interviewer that he still detests the only NBA reporter who didn’t vote for Shaq as MVP for the 1999-00 season.  O’Neal called reporter Fred Hickman, “Fred Idiot Hickman” and said that “I hate him.  I don’t need to talk to him.  There’s nothing to apologize about because he destroyed history being a … [Read more...] about Revisiting Shaq’s 1999-00 MVP Voting

May 28, 2019 by Harlan Schreiber Leave a Comment

Another year, another Golden State Warriors NBA Finals and the question, as always, is can the Warriors lose?  Well, of course, they can lose, as they did in 2015-16, based upon an epic effort from LeBron James and Kyrie Irving, coupled with some bad times suspensions and injuries.  But the probabilities and possibilities change each season.  Let’s run through our usual NBA Finals preview FAQ-style to see what issues come up… How long ago does it feel since the Warriors lost their last … [Read more...] about NBA Finals Preview 2018-19: Raps for Warriors

Who to Blame in LA?

March 14, 2019 by Harlan Schreiber Leave a Comment

The Lakers struggles down the stretch have created the perception of crushing disappointment in Los Angeles.  Like every other NBA follower, I wanted to quickly throw in my two cents as who is to blame/not blame.  Let’s examine the issues FAQ style! -How disappointed should the Lakers be to miss the playoffs? Let’s start with the basics…the expectations in LA were a bit high but the reality is this team was not good.  Even with LeBron James, the reasonable consensus was that the Lakers … [Read more...] about Who to Blame in LA?

Transactions, Free Agency 2018 Edition

July 5, 2018 by Harlan Schreiber Leave a Comment

Most of the big moves are done for NBA Summer 2018, so let’s take stock at the most interesting ones so far… Golden State Warriors Sign DeMarcus Cousins Certainly DMC can really help the Warriors if he’s healthy but this is not the seminal moment where the NBA needs to declare Golden State in violation of antitrust law.  The facts are pretty clear….Cousins was not someone that teams wanted to invest in when he was healthy because of his volatile temper.  The Kings’ return for Cousins … [Read more...] about Transactions, Free Agency 2018 Edition

NBA Playoff Predictions 2017-18

April 13, 2018 by Harlan Schreiber Leave a Comment

For the first time in several years, the odds do not favor a Warriors-Cavs Finals.  In fact, the odds probably don’t even favor either team making the NBA Finals.  The Rockets appear to be a better (and healthier) team than Golden State, which has limped through this last month.  In the East, the familiar axiom that LeBron James is enough to overcome the East’s best regular season may no longer apply. The Warriors and Rockets are the class of the West by far and their Conference Finals … [Read more...] about NBA Playoff Predictions 2017-18

April 7, 2018 by Harlan Schreiber Leave a Comment

As the season winds down, let’s dive into the obligatory year end awards predictions.  Last year, there was some debate over which incredible season between Russell Westbrook and James Harden merited MVP.  This year, it seems clearer that Harden is in the lead on all fronts.  Nevertheless, let’s look into the numbers and give our take on the major awards: Rookie of the Year:  Before sorting through this group, we do note that there are a bunch of pretty good rooks that are arguably in the … [Read more...] about Year End Award Predictions
