No D in the Land

January 26, 2018 by Harlan Schreiber 1 Comment

The Cavs’ very dry spell the last few weeks has caused all sorts of drama internally and externally.  Was letting Kyrie Irving go for Isaiah Thomas hurting the team?  Cleveland reportedly had a heated meeting where Kevin Love was considered the primary culprit for the losing because he did not play through illness and left a game early.  I don’t mean to dismiss the team’s anger at Love or the fact that Thomas has been downgrade from Kyrie (so far) but the obvious answer is clear from a quick … [Read more...] about No D in the Land

NBA Preview 2017-18

October 18, 2017 by Harlan Schreiber Leave a Comment

We are a day late but let’s talk NBA preview…The primary story angle has been that the season doesn’t matter and that we likely are headed for a fourth straight series between the Warriors and Cavs in the Finals.   And that was before the most likely rival to the Cavs in the East lost one of its best players a few minutes into the season.  It does seem that the consensus is correct and we are most likely headed for an unprecedented re-re-re-rematch in the Finals between Golden State and … [Read more...] about NBA Preview 2017-18

The Kyrie Affair

July 29, 2017 by Harlan Schreiber Leave a Comment

The drama in Cleveland has dominated the summer downtime in the NBA.  Kyrie Irving is apparently unhappy playing with LeBron James and wants to be traded.  The situation is serious enough that Irving is reportedly refusing to speak with anyone associated with the Cavs.  The Kyrie situation has been well covered but we would be remiss if we didn’t throw in our two cents. Should Kyrie want to be traded? This is obviously a subjective judgment but, let’s assess the facts.  At first blush, it … [Read more...] about The Kyrie Affair

Curry or Harden: The 2015 MVP Debate

March 3, 2015 by Ed Weiland Leave a Comment

The 2015 MVP race is interesting in a lot of ways. Like the season in general the story has been about new faces dominating the picture. This has been a welcome and refreshing development. It also features a most productive player vs. best player on the best team debate. That would Stephen Curry of the Warriors and James Harden of the Rockets. This article breaks down the MVP chances for both players and adds some thoughts on 4 longshot candidates. Stephen Curry, Golden State: Curry is the … [Read more...] about Curry or Harden: The 2015 MVP Debate

Can the Heat Match the ’93 Bulls?

April 21, 2014 by Ed Weiland Leave a Comment

The ’91 Bulls were a team that needed to win a championship. They were coming off consecutive Eastern Conference finals losses to the champion Pistons the previous 2 seasons.  In Michael Jordan they had the league’s best scorer. While Jordan wasn’t the reigning MVP, going into the season he was considered at least the equal of the reigning MVP, Magic Johnson. What Johnson and Larry Bird had that Jordan didn’t was championships. At the time there were whispers that the Bulls couldn’t win a title … [Read more...] about Can the Heat Match the ’93 Bulls?

NBA 2013 Preview: The MVP Race

October 20, 2012 by Ed Weiland Leave a Comment

The MVP award is as much about team success as it is about individual success. To win the award it is imperative that a candidate pile up impressive stats. But those stats mean little if his team is perceived to have underachieved by the voters. More often than not the MVP goes to a player whose team is a top seed or has experienced improvement. In grading the MVP candidates for 2013, I look first for players who are the best of the best. I’m talking about the elite, the superstars, etc. Next … [Read more...] about NBA 2013 Preview: The MVP Race
