Transactions: Deadline Round Up

February 21, 2014 by Harlan Schreiber Leave a Comment

The trade deadline has come and gone and, yet again, we are underwhelmed with the results.  No big names were moved.  Rather, most of the trades came down to the dregs of the Eastern Conference trying desperately to eke into the playoffs or, perhaps equally desperately, trying to get above the seven seed and inevitable first round annihilation at the hands of Indiana or Miami.   Here’s our rundown of the recent moves: Indiana traded Danny Granger and a future second-round pick to Philadelphia … [Read more...] about Transactions: Deadline Round Up

NBA Draft 2014: Top 60

February 6, 2014 by Ed Weiland Leave a Comment

The 2014 draft is starting to come into focus. Two things I can say for certain is that Joel Embiid has established himself as the best prospect out there and the draft will be dominated by perimeter players after he’s taken #1. After Embiid the big guys are an uninspiring bunch. I do think the 2014 draft has a chance to live up to its preseason billing of legendary. Embiid and Parker both look like they have the goods to become perennial all-stars. Behind them are as many as 10 players good … [Read more...] about NBA Draft 2014: Top 60

NBA Draft 2014: Top 60ish

January 7, 2014 by Ed Weiland Leave a Comment

After a couple months of play the numbers are starting to pile up. While “legendary” might be a tad premature, I think we can call the 2014 draft promising at this point. It still could go either way, but I like the mix of freshmen and returning players enough to think that at least a few star prospects will emerge. Drafts are about producing superstars though and that was the original appeal of the 2014 class going into the season. There were 2 players that had been compared to LeBron James … [Read more...] about NBA Draft 2014: Top 60ish

Quick Thoughts

December 11, 2013 by Harlan Schreiber Leave a Comment

1. No Free Throw Pablo:  While the early struggles of the Knicks have been thoroughly discussed, what caught my attention was the play of backup point guard Pablo Prigioni.  Prigioni is a solid player (14.1 PER so far this year) and has actually significantly outplayed starter Raymond Felton (whose struggles are a big factor in the Knicks’ terrible start).  The interesting thing about Prigioni is that, despite playing 16 minutes a game, he has attempted zero free throws this year.  Last year, … [Read more...] about Quick Thoughts

A Look at Dante Exum

November 19, 2013 by Ed Weiland Leave a Comment

Dante Exum is an Australian guard who is being touted in the mocks as being right there with Wiggins, Parker and Randle as a player worthy of being the top overall pick in the legendary 2014 NBA draft. It is still a long time until the draft and a lot will change at the top before June. I wanted to take a look at Exum to decide whether he’s a legit top 5 prospect or if he’s just another flash in the pan riding an impressive high school all-star game performance and an imposing wingspan to … [Read more...] about A Look at Dante Exum

It is Early, But…

November 13, 2013 by Ed Weiland Leave a Comment

Actually I don’t think it is too early to start breaking down the legendary 2014 draft class. Everyone else is on it, so I might as well jump in and join the fray. I may wait a decade or three before doing a 2014 comp with the classes of ’84, ’96 and ’03 though. My MO has always been to wait until January for my first look at the draft class. But this group is clearly different. Last night’s Champions Classic was so much fun, not even Dick Vitale could ruin it. So let’s join the fun and engage … [Read more...] about It is Early, But…
