NBA Draft 2014: The Shooting Guards

June 19, 2014 by Ed Weiland Leave a Comment

This is a solid group. The talent here isn’t crazy good as it is with the SFs this year, but it is a nice deep class headed by potential all-stars Adams, Hairston and Harris. While the players are ranked, I bunched them into 5 groups: The top 4, the young guys with potential, the best of the rest, the small college stars and four other players worth a mention. Here are the numbers: SG Prospects 2PP 3pp P40 S40 RSB40 A/TO Jordan … [Read more...] about NBA Draft 2014: The Shooting Guards

NBA Draft 2014: Ranking the Point Guards

June 16, 2014 by Ed Weiland Leave a Comment

Like the other perimeter positions in the 2014 draft this is a strong class of PGs. There are potential stars, likely journeymen and several players who are worth a look and could succeed should they work hard and have other factors play out right. Here are the numbers for each college player:   PG Prospects 2PP 3PP P40 A40 S40 RSB40 A/TO Marcus Smart 514 299 21.1 5.6 3.4 11.0 1.8 Elfrid … [Read more...] about NBA Draft 2014: Ranking the Point Guards

The Cavaliers Should Draft Joel Embiid

June 12, 2014 by Ed Weiland Leave a Comment

Cleveland has won the lottery again. When the Cavs won it last year I felt it was clear they had to draft Nerlens Noel. They passed on my advice and went with Anthony Bennett. While I’m sure the Cavs would like to have that one back, drafting Bennett did set in motion a series of events that finds Cleveland atop the lottery again with another opportunity to draft a franchise center. That Embiid tops the 2014 list of draft prospects shouldn’t be a surprise. He’s a rim-protecting center with a … [Read more...] about The Cavaliers Should Draft Joel Embiid

2014 NBA Draft: Top SFs Gordon, Parker and Wiggins

June 10, 2014 by Ed Weiland Leave a Comment

The 2014 draft has been all about the SFs. While I feel center Joel Embiid is the top prospect, the buzz around the most anticipated draft in years has been around SFs Andrew Wiggins and Jabari Parker. These two are the reason the 2014 draft was labelled “legendary” before either played a minute of college ball. Both have been called the best high school prospect since LeBron James while in high school. Both are SFs, with Wiggins possibly being able to play some SG and Parker a potential stretch … [Read more...] about 2014 NBA Draft: Top SFs Gordon, Parker and Wiggins

NBA Draft 2014: Marcus Smart and Elfrid Payton

June 4, 2014 by Ed Weiland Leave a Comment

Smart and Payton are the two top college PGs available in the 2014 draft. While the mysterious Dante Exum could exceed them both, when looking strictly at college players, Smart and Payton stand well above the crowd. The reason is both are young and both hit the important statistical benchmarks that most stars have hit. The big marks both players hit are .500 on 2PP while scoring 20+ P40 and an RSB40 over 9.0. As long as there are no other red flags like high turnovers or accomplishing this feat … [Read more...] about NBA Draft 2014: Marcus Smart and Elfrid Payton

NBA Finals Preview

June 3, 2014 by Harlan Schreiber Leave a Comment

It took a year for us to get right back where we left off at the end of 2012-13, Heat v. Spurs, the rematch.  Let’s run through the some interesting tidbits about the rematch.  But first a few notes on the losers from last round: Pacers Can’t Score Typically, coming pretty close to the NBA Finals but not getting there is either a great thing or a crushing defeat, depending on expectations.  If you told a Pacer fan that the team would get to the Conference Finals and lose to the Heat in six … [Read more...] about NBA Finals Preview
