NBA 2022-23: Eastern Conference Preview

October 16, 2022 by Harlan Schreiber

With each season of the 2020s, the NBA becomes more and more opaque.  The 2021-22 Warriors were a very good team but were nowhere near as dominant as their prior iterations.  But Golden State, like most of the good teams, has a decent argument that it can win the 2022-23 title.  There are plenty of title-worthy teams but no prohibitive favorite and compelling arguments against nearly every team. Today, let’s run through the some assorted burning questions and predictions for … [Read more...] about NBA 2022-23: Eastern Conference Preview

Playoff Quick Thoughts (East Edition)

May 29, 2021 by Harlan Schreiber

We missed a formal playoff preview this year so, instead, let’s jump into some quick thoughts for each playoff series and do our usual feature about the last time each team met in the playoffs.  Today, we will do the East today and the West shortly after…. -76ers v. Wizards:  As anticipated, the 76ers handled the Wiz relatively easily at home (Game 1 was competitive but Game 2 was decidedly not).  The 76ers stars have been dominant and Tobias Harris’ great start bodes well for … [Read more...] about Playoff Quick Thoughts (East Edition)

Are the Knicks for Real?

April 25, 2021 by Harlan Schreiber

With a relatively easy victory over the Raptors yesterday, the Knicks have now won nine straight and sit tenuously in the fourth seed at 34-27.  Naturally, New York is aflutter over the Knicks playing meaningful games in April and generally appearing to be a competent organization.  Let’s look at the Knicks and how real this turnaround is… What exactly are the 2020-21 Knicks? They are the 2020-21 version of the old Jeff Van Gundy Knicks, a slow paced/defensive squad.  Tom Thibodeau … [Read more...] about Are the Knicks for Real?

NBA Draft 2014: Freshmen PFs Vonleh and Randle

June 23, 2014 by Ed Weiland Leave a Comment

In most of the mocks I’ve seen around the WWW there are two freshmen PFs, Julius Randle and Noah Vonleh, who have been consistently in the lottery and the top 2 PFs listed. Currently Vonleh is holding strong at #5 while Randle is around #7, but seems in danger of sliding lower, possibly even becoming the draft day slider. Both boast rebounding as their top strength, having averaged over 13.0 R40 during their freshmen years. This is quite an impressive number that isn’t reached by too many PFs … [Read more...] about NBA Draft 2014: Freshmen PFs Vonleh and Randle

A Look at Dante Exum

November 19, 2013 by Ed Weiland Leave a Comment

Dante Exum is an Australian guard who is being touted in the mocks as being right there with Wiggins, Parker and Randle as a player worthy of being the top overall pick in the legendary 2014 NBA draft. It is still a long time until the draft and a lot will change at the top before June. I wanted to take a look at Exum to decide whether he’s a legit top 5 prospect or if he’s just another flash in the pan riding an impressive high school all-star game performance and an imposing wingspan to … [Read more...] about A Look at Dante Exum

It is Early, But…

November 13, 2013 by Ed Weiland Leave a Comment

Actually I don’t think it is too early to start breaking down the legendary 2014 draft class. Everyone else is on it, so I might as well jump in and join the fray. I may wait a decade or three before doing a 2014 comp with the classes of ’84, ’96 and ’03 though. My MO has always been to wait until January for my first look at the draft class. But this group is clearly different. Last night’s Champions Classic was so much fun, not even Dick Vitale could ruin it. So let’s join the fun and engage … [Read more...] about It is Early, But…
