During the 1990s, Mitch Richmond was one of my favorite players. He was a big strong two-guard who could hit the three or overpower guards in the post. In the late 1980s and early 1990s, the Golden State Warriors attempted to compete with a fun, high scoring, perimeter-oriented team, affectionately nicknamed Run TMC, a pun on the popular old rap group Run DMC. In this case the, “TMC” represented T(im Hardaway), M(itch Richmond), and C(hris Mullin). Hardaway, Richmond, and Mullin all scored over 22.9 ppg in 1990-91. Thursday night, the Hornets drubbed the Grizzlies by 61 points. This marked the sixth time in the NBA history that there has been a margin of greater than 60 points (and the first time since 1997-98). While one wouldn’t expect any NBA team to lose by 60, if you had to pick a likely candidate to suffer a mega blowout, the Grizz fit the bill.
