Revisiting Philly’s Roy Hinson/Brad Daugherty Trade

November 29, 2020 by Harlan Schreiber

What do you do when you are a GM and are underwhelmed by the options for the top pick?  For an object lesson on what not to do, let’s turn back time to the 1986 draft and talk about the dilemma faced by the 76ers.  This draft is best remembered for the tragic death of second pick Len Bias of a drug overdose the night after the draft.  That sad story has been well told but, before the draft, the big story was what Philly would do with the top overall pick.  Let’s review this … [Read more...] about Revisiting Philly’s Roy Hinson/Brad Daugherty Trade

HOF Review: Central Division

June 20, 2020 by Harlan Schreiber

Today is part two of our franchise review of likely and potential Hall of Famers.  Part 1, the Atlantic Division, (and our rules of review) can be found here.  Today, we move on to the Central Division…. A few weeks ago, Udonis Haslem accepted a relatively modest one-year deal to return to the Heat for his 16th (and presumably final) NBA season.  Haslem represents a rarity—an NBA player who has played his entire long career for a single franchise.  U told ESPN that his longevity and exclusively Miami Heat-based career has significant meaning to him: “It's about my love for the organization and my love for the guys.  It wasn't about me. If I was looking for playing time, I could have gone … [Read more...] about Udonis and Franchise Lifers

Studying the Mega Blowouts

March 23, 2018 by Harlan Schreiber Leave a Comment

Thursday night, the Hornets drubbed the Grizzlies by 61 points.  This marked the sixth time in the NBA history that there has been a margin of greater than 60 points (and the first time since 1997-98).  While one wouldn’t expect any NBA team to lose by 60, if you had to pick a likely candidate to suffer a mega blowout, the Grizz fit the bill.  They are tied as the worst team in the NBA (the Suns have same record but a much worse SRS), playing on the road, late in a lost season, and without most … [Read more...] about Studying the Mega Blowouts
