2020-21 MVP Picks

May 10, 2021 by Harlan Schreiber

Who is the 2020-21 NBA MVP?  Usually, there is not much controversy and the best player seems apparent to most fans/voters.  Specifically, the MVP is usually the best player on the best team.  That’s the nice thing about the NBA, the best players historically are on the best teams.  There were times when strong narratives regarding nice stories (i.e. Allen Iverson 2000-01) or shear voter fatigue (see Jordan, Michael) changed the vote but, for the most part, it has held.  … [Read more...] about 2020-21 MVP Picks

HOF Review: Pacific Division

July 19, 2020 by Harlan Schreiber

One day soon there will be actual live basketball games but for now we have reached the final leg of our Hall of Fame franchise review, the Pacific Division.  As a reminder, our HOF review seeks to find each franchise’s most likely active and retired player to make the Hall.  If you want more details on what that means, check the following links: Ground Rules  Atlantic Division Central Division Southeast Division Southwest Division Northwest Division Golden … [Read more...] about HOF Review: Pacific Division

All-Star Game Quick Thoughts

February 14, 2020 by Harlan Schreiber Leave a Comment

1. All-Star Game Stat Trend Update: Adam Silver’s attempts to tweak the All-Star Weekend make sense.  The game is beyond stale and this point.  It is harder and harder to care about this showcase when the effort on defense does not meet the basic baseline of caring.  Two years ago, we reviewed the All-Star stats and documented the steady decline in defense (which wasn’t so hot years ago but is now putrid), as well the rise in the three-point shot attempts. Well, the 2018-19 All-Star game … [Read more...] about All-Star Game Quick Thoughts

NBA Finals Preview 2018-19: Raps for Warriors

May 28, 2019 by Harlan Schreiber Leave a Comment

Another year, another Golden State Warriors NBA Finals and the question, as always, is can the Warriors lose?  Well, of course, they can lose, as they did in 2015-16, based upon an epic effort from LeBron James and Kyrie Irving, coupled with some bad times suspensions and injuries.  But the probabilities and possibilities change each season.  Let’s run through our usual NBA Finals preview FAQ-style to see what issues come up… How long ago does it feel since the Warriors lost their last … [Read more...] about NBA Finals Preview 2018-19: Raps for Warriors

Quick Thoughts

December 28, 2018 by Harlan Schreiber Leave a Comment

1. GS Struggles: The Warriors are still the top seed in the West but, after several blowout losses at home and a relatively blah SRS (4.02 which is only third in the conference), there are signs of problems.   The Warriors are still the top offense in the NBA but the clearest team problem is defense.  The Warriors slipped from a top 5 defense to 11th last season.  This trend line has slipped even further this year (16th). Where does the slippage lie?  The frontcourt still has solid numbers … [Read more...] about Quick Thoughts

NBA Playoff Predictions 2017-18

April 13, 2018 by Harlan Schreiber Leave a Comment

For the first time in several years, the odds do not favor a Warriors-Cavs Finals.  In fact, the odds probably don’t even favor either team making the NBA Finals.  The Rockets appear to be a better (and healthier) team than Golden State, which has limped through this last month.  In the East, the familiar axiom that LeBron James is enough to overcome the East’s best regular season may no longer apply. The Warriors and Rockets are the class of the West by far and their Conference Finals … [Read more...] about NBA Playoff Predictions 2017-18
