Can the Heat Match the ’93 Bulls?

April 21, 2014 by Ed Weiland Leave a Comment

The ’91 Bulls were a team that needed to win a championship. They were coming off consecutive Eastern Conference finals losses to the champion Pistons the previous 2 seasons.  In Michael Jordan they had the league’s best scorer. While Jordan wasn’t the reigning MVP, going into the season he was considered at least the equal of the reigning MVP, Magic Johnson. What Johnson and Larry Bird had that Jordan didn’t was championships. At the time there were whispers that the Bulls couldn’t win a title … [Read more...] about Can the Heat Match the ’93 Bulls?

NBA Draft: Top 60 Post Tournament

April 15, 2014 by Ed Weiland Leave a Comment

This final top 60 includes only seniors and underclassmen listed as at least 50-50 to declare on Chad Ford’s list. So until next year I bid adieu to Denzel Livingston and Delon Wright. I look forward to seeing you both drafted in the 2015 lottery. The 2014 draft is shaping up as a perimeter heavy draft. After Embiid and possibly Clint Capela, there are no real good prospects at the 4 or 5. This could become one of the great drafts ever for small forwards though. It is a very deep draft at the … [Read more...] about NBA Draft: Top 60 Post Tournament

2014 NCAA Tournament Predictions

March 19, 2014 by Ed Weiland Leave a Comment

As I’m sure is the case with a lot of other self-appointed experts, this billion dollar bracket has gotten my attention. Because of this I have spent more time analyzing the 2014 tournament than normal. While I’m fully aware all this extra work is not going to make me the newest member of the 1%, it might result in a stronger bracket. The extra work has also allowed less time for writing, so this will be more of a listing of who I expect to win each round without much heavy analysis. I ask … [Read more...] about 2014 NCAA Tournament Predictions

NBA Draft 2014: Top 60

March 6, 2014 by Ed Weiland Leave a Comment

As the NCAA season cruises towards the tournament, the draft picture remains muddled after Joel Embiid at the top. What is clear is that assuming most of the draftworthy players head to the pros, the 2014 draft should be a pretty good one. This class is very deep on the perimeter and should deliver solid prospects deep into round one. 1.       Joel Embiid, C Kansas: Centers who come in as freshmen and put up a .600+ 2PP, double digit R40 and 4.0+ B40 become legendary NBA players as long as … [Read more...] about NBA Draft 2014: Top 60

NBA Draft 2014: Top 60

February 6, 2014 by Ed Weiland Leave a Comment

The 2014 draft is starting to come into focus. Two things I can say for certain is that Joel Embiid has established himself as the best prospect out there and the draft will be dominated by perimeter players after he’s taken #1. After Embiid the big guys are an uninspiring bunch. I do think the 2014 draft has a chance to live up to its preseason billing of legendary. Embiid and Parker both look like they have the goods to become perennial all-stars. Behind them are as many as 10 players good … [Read more...] about NBA Draft 2014: Top 60

NBA Draft 2014: Top 60ish

January 7, 2014 by Ed Weiland Leave a Comment

After a couple months of play the numbers are starting to pile up. While “legendary” might be a tad premature, I think we can call the 2014 draft promising at this point. It still could go either way, but I like the mix of freshmen and returning players enough to think that at least a few star prospects will emerge. Drafts are about producing superstars though and that was the original appeal of the 2014 class going into the season. There were 2 players that had been compared to LeBron James … [Read more...] about NBA Draft 2014: Top 60ish
