How do you wrap your head around this recent James Harden trade?  This epically large trade was as follows: Nets get: James Harden from Rockets, 2024 second-round pick from Cavs Rockets get: Caris Levert, Rodions Kurucs, three first-round picks (2022, 2024, and 2026) from Nets, and four options to swap first round-pick with the Nets; Dante Exum and 2022 first-round pick (Milwaukee’s) from Cavaliers Cavaliers get: Jarrett Allen, Taurean Prince, and rights to Aleksandar Vezenkov from … [Read more...] about Breaking Down the Harden Deal

HOF Review: Central Division

June 20, 2020 by Harlan Schreiber

Today is part two of our franchise review of likely and potential Hall of Famers.  Part 1, the Atlantic Division, (and our rules of review) can be found here.  Today, we move on to the Central Division…. Chicago Bulls -Most likely HOFer, active players:  Doesn’t seem that the Bulls’ current roster has anyone HOF worthy.  Since we are forced to choose for our purposes, the choice comes down to two guards from happier times in Chicago, Derrick Rose and Jimmy Butler.  … [Read more...] about HOF Review: Central Division

Should the NBA Finish This Season?

June 13, 2020 by Harlan Schreiber

I thought we could briefly review the current issues that are being bandied about regarding whether the NBA season should restart.  Before offering any opinion, let’s get the facts down: -The NBA season is currently supposed to start in Orlando on or about July 30th. -The teams will all be confined to a “bubble” in Orlando and have repeated tests to avoid risk of COVID infections.  There would be no fans in this venue either. -Dr. Anthony Fauci recently said that he thought … [Read more...] about Should the NBA Finish This Season?

How Did We Get Here? A Review of 1990s NBA Free Agency

June 23, 2019 by Harlan Schreiber Leave a Comment

In about one week, NBA free agency will be upon us.  We are already being deluged with rumors, innuendo, and recruiting anecdotes.  This year, there are some huge names on the block, notably Kevin Durant, Kawhi Leonard, Kyrie Irving, and Jimmy Butler.  We are hearing stories about Irving buying a home in New Jersey (where he is from), as proof that he’s locked into the Nets.  Durant is even more of a mystery, with his serious injury, his spats in Golden State, and the desperation of the Knicks … [Read more...] about How Did We Get Here? Kyrie v. Isaiah

January 2, 2018 by Harlan Schreiber Leave a Comment

Much has happened since the Isaiah Thomas-Kyrie Irving trade but finally we are going to actually see Thomas back in action.  This is a nice time to briefly take stock of how Irving has done as a Celtic compared to Thomas.  Irving’s Cleveland stats weren’t quite up to snuff with Isaiah’s as a Celtic.  Well now Kyrie is playing Isaiah’s exact role with the Celtics.  Did mixing Kyrie with Brad Steven’s penchant for getting the best out of players make Irving look better?  The sample size is small … [Read more...] about Kyrie v. Kyrie for Isaiah, who won?

August 22, 2017 by Harlan Schreiber Leave a Comment

Well, that was quick.  The Cavs did not let Kyrie Irving’s trade request linger and the return was fairly significant.  Let’s run down the trade… Cavs trade Kyrie Irving to Celtics for Isaiah Thomas, Jae Crowder, Ante Zizic, and the Nets’ first round pick in 2018 From the Cavs’ perspective, trading Kyrie meant likely choosing between trying to go for a title in 2017-18 while LeBron James is in town (and also, perhaps, to convince him to stay longer) or getting future value for Irving in … [Read more...] about Kyrie for Isaiah, who won?
